Kite Aerial Photography (KAP) Winnipeg Manitoba

Just for the fun of it, I wondered if my kite could lift a Dimage Z10 digital camera encased in a light-weight protective styrofoam box. The camera, including the 4 AA NiCd batteries, weighs about 15 ounces (just under a pound). This is my first ever, although somewhat crude, attempt at Kite Aerial Photography (KAP). The flight took place on November 16, 2007, on the University of Manitoba campus.

* east wind, ~ 20 km/h, max camera height ~ 80 feet

Kite recovery team and a video still ...

The kite was first launched without the payload. Once the kite was flying and stable, the camera box was tied to a loop in the flying line about 40 feet down from the kite. The main objective of this flight was to see if the kite could actually lift the camera - the video is a bonus. The camera box was swinging around like crazy. I have cut out most of the dizzy parts of the video, so hopefully you don't get too sick watching it ...
